Lefty Frizzell – I Want To Be With You Always (1951)

October 8, 2019 – Day 130

John Prine and Willie Nelson did nice versions of this song (in fact, Willie did an entire album of Lefty covers called “To Lefty From Willie” but sometimes the original is all you need. “I Want To Be With You Always” was Lefty Frizzel’s 4th #1 on the Billboard Hot Country Chart in less than a year over 1950/1951 and it also hit #29 on the Billboard Hot 100 as a crossover hit. Frizzell’s sound was often copied over the years which means, I guess, that he was ahead of his time and all of the biggest names in country from the second half of the 20th century idolized him. “I lose my blues, honey, when I’m with you / No one else can do what you do, you’re in my heart to stay”
