Mary Lou Lord – Beeswing (2001)

February 5, 2020 – Day 227

Mary Lou Lord recorded an album with a portable DAT recorder in Boston subway stations and in Harvard Square. Mostly covers, the songs don’t seem to have a theme so I assume this is a bunch of her favourite songs. She covered two Richard Thompson songs including “Beeswing” from his 1994 album “Mirror Blue.” Set in the summer of love, the lyrics are about a romance with a “wild child,” and maybe Lord chose this song because she saw herself in the lyrics which reference busking and refusing to settle down. “She said “Young man, oh can’t you see I’m not the factory kind If you don’t take me out of here I’ll surely lose my mind””
